TGIF Dinner & Speaker Series

Speaker: Susan Person
Topic: A healing journey to the past. A healing journey to the past. Guest Speaker Susan Person, shared with us last year November, her father’s (Henryk Kozubski) experiences in a Soviet Prisoner of War Camp, his subsequent release to join the Allied Forces Ed and battles during WWII.
Susan will share her healing journey through Poland, the concentration camps, war memorials, and reconnecting with her Polish family as she pays tribute to our past. It promises to be a cathartic and spiritually uplifting.

Speaker: Rebecca Gibson
Topic: Rebecca will share an interactive presentation on working in the film industry. Rebecca started in the theatre as a teenager, and has over three decades of film experience, including winning many local, national, and international awards. Her passion is supporting others to follow their dreams in this fun industry-and she’ll share ways to do that, that might be right for you.

The Very Groovy Things Band
SCC Fundraiser at the Scandinavian Centre on Friday, October 17th. Join us for great singable music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, dancing, and games.
Dressing in retro clothing/costumes is encouraged and, yes, there will be prizes! Doors open at 6 p.m. Food will be available for purchase at that time. Event begins at 7pm. Cash bar.
Tickets are $25.00 and are available at all brunches and the September TGIF. Cash, credit, debit accepted.

The Scandinavian Centre’s monthly TGIF series will return for the fall season on Friday, Sept. 26. The annual Markmann Award will be given to an outstanding volunteer.

Home routes is a Winnipeg based non-profit organization that was initiated with a start -up grant from the Canada Council For Arts by the founders of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the West End Cultural Centre, Mitch Podolak, Ava Kobrinsky, and Tom Osmond.

Topic: "Sir William Stephenson -- The Man Called Intrepid"
Dwight MacAulay is the past president of the Intrepid Society and will give a talk on one of the most fascinating individuals in the last century, Sir William Stephenson.
Sir William Stephenson grew up in Winnipeg and was given up by his parents as a young child, because they could not afford to feed him. He went on to acquire great wealth. However, much more important was his impact on bringing World War II to a close.
Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond series, famously stated that James Bond is a "highly romanticized version of a true spy" and that the real thing is William Stephenson.
Join Dwight for a talk on this truly incredible man and his life.

Topic: Grands ‘n’ More Winnipeg is a volunteer, non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of the grandmothers of sub-Saharan Africa and the orphaned children in their care in the face of the AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa. They are part of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
Grands ‘n’ More Winnipeg, work in solidarity, to support the African grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa who are caring for the children who have been orphaned by AIDS. They work through the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports community-based organizations working on the frontlines of the AIDS pandemic.
