Scandia Fun Folk Dancers
The Scandia Fun Folk Dancers meet every Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. to learn dances from all 5 Scandinavian countries. We perform at Folklorama every August and at various Scandinavian cultural events throughout the year. We also do community service performances at senior¹s residences in and around Winnipeg. If you like to dance, come out and join us. Everyone is welcome.
The dance group performs at many of the cultural celebrations held at the Centre — from Norwegian Syttende Mai to the Swedish Lucia pageant and often travels to other places to perform, including at the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival in Fargo/Moorhead. Their performances at many senior complexes and nursing homes throughout Manitoba have been very well received.
One of the annual “not to be missed” performances is at the Scandinavian Pavilion during Folklorama.
The Most Fun You Can Have on a Saturday Morning!!!
The Scandia Young Folk Dancers are an established group of young performers. They formed in 1986 under the direction of the present instructor, Karl Sorensen.
Many traditional dances from the five countries are taught. Some of the young adult dancers have continued to enjoy folk dancing by joining the adult dance group, the Fun Folk Dancers. Others are instructing the Young Folk Dancers as well! The practices are held every Saturday morning at 10:30, at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre.
The Scandinavian Canadian Choir (SCC) is the most vocal of all the groups at the Scandinavian Centre.
When it comes to sharing our Scandinavian Culture with the community, the choir always sings out loud and clear. Its purpose is to bring to the community the songs of five Scandinavian countries. The choir sings the songs in the language they were written. This means singing in Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish. We also sing the English translation as well, if it exists.
The choir meets weekly on Mondays. All are welcome.

The Scandinavian Folk Group organizes for the Scandinavian Pavilion each year for Folklorama, which is held at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre (764 Erin Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) in August. The Scandinavian Pavilion was one of the founding pavilions in 1970 and has been running each year since the inception of the Winnipeg Folklorama cultural celebration. Come join in the fun and visit our pavilion or become a volunteer! Click here for the Volunteer Form.
